Founded by designer Liz Carey, Bird Handbags offers a collection of hippie chic purses that are unpretentious and elegant. Carey left Ohio at the age of 17 and began a modeling career that led her down runways for designers like Armani, Versace, and Alexander McQueen and down the aisle with a member of the British band Oasis. After her divorce, Carey headed back to the States and settled in Los Angeles to pursue a career in comedy. Between improv classed and auditions, Carey studied at the Otis School of Design and began concentrating on purse construction. The model-turned-designer is known for creating handbags that mix fine skins, like lamb and ostrich, with ethnic fabrics, like vintage Guatemalan wedding shirts. Her pieces vary in size, hides, colors, and patterns, which have garnered a strong following with celebrities, "rich hippies, and international fashion publications.
